More than 30 local and international organizations meet in the city of Quito to exchange experiences, achievements, and learnings for the defense of the Amazon.
Quito, September 14tn, 2022.- Since 2018, the All Eyes on the Amazon (AEA) program has been implemented in the Amazon of Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil through a coalition led by Hivos, Greenpeace, and COICA, bringing together more than 30 local and international organizations working in the fields of technology, human and indigenous rights, biodiversity conservation, transparency, advocacy, and law enforcement.
For four years, the program has worked collaboratively for the defense of the rights of Indigenous peoples. For example, as part of successful territorial defense processes such as the victory of the Sinangoe community against non-consensual mining in Ecuador, the international complaints of the Platform of Amazonian Indigenous Peoples United in Defense of their Territories (PUINAMUDT) for the damage caused by the oil industry in Peru or the fight of the Karipuna people against deforestation in Brazil.
Last June, the Program entered its closing phase. This also meant a time to reflect on the program’s impact in the region, as well as the lessons learned and good practices from implementing a multi-stakeholder initiative in the Amazon region with indigenous organizations at the center of decision-making.
Thus, local and international organizations of the AEA program are meeting in Quito, Ecuador, from September 14 to 16, for an intense working session. During the event, they will participatory identify the program’s achievements, analyze the lessons learned from its results and internal governance, and propose recommendations for future multi-stakeholder interventions in the Amazon region that address the defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and their territories.

As a result, a systematization will be drafted, giving visibility to the impact of one of the region’s most ambitious, inclusive, and innovative programs, inspiring and contributing to future actions.
Because now, more than ever, it’s time to put All Eyes on the Amazon!
