The third and last meeting of the thematic cycle on Land Defense Strategies took place on February 18, 2021, and focused on the Strategies and the Protagonism of Women in Land Defense.
The meeting featured the presentation of cases on the Perspective of Women in Indigenous Land Governance in Peru, presented by Melania Canales, President of the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women of Peru (ONAMIAP); on the Land Defense of the Munduruku Warriors in the Tapajós Basin, in Brazil, presented by Alessandra Korap, Leader of the Munduruku People; in addition to the Case of Mecheros: Indigenous Girls and Youth leading Land Defense in the Ecuadorian Amazon, which was presented by Denisse Samaniego; Carmen Samaniego; Kerly Carrión; and Alicia Carrión, daughters and mothers affected by flaring (mecheros); and by Pablo Fajardo, lawyer for the Union of People Affected by the Oil Operations of Texaco (UDAPT).
